Points to consider while choosing a Hamster cage

Bringing a pet in your home is always exciting but you also need to remember that you will need a comfortable space where your pet can live and spend his time happily. When you plan to get a Hamster as a pet you will need to keep in mind that you need to buy a Hamster Cage

There are many things you need to consider while choosing a Hamster cage:

1) Type of cage: There are different types of Hamster cages which include the traditional square cages and the modular ones made from plastic which has many tubes and pods that you can keep adding or changing continually to keep your hamster entertained. You need to keep in mind that the cage should have ample room for your pet hamster to move easily.

2) Safety and security: The safety of your pet hamster is of utmost importance. Wooden cages are not the right choice for hamsters as they can gnaw through the wood and easily escape from their cage. You can choose from a huge range of plastic tube hamster cages which are suitable for both big and small hamsters including dwarf hamsters and Syrian hamsters. Dwarf hamsters have the ability to squeeze through really tiny places and it becomes difficult to catch them once they have escaped. So, it is important to ensure that there are no gaps in the hamster cage you have chosen, through which your pet can escape especially, if you choose the conventional wire hamster cage.

3) Easy to maintain: Your pet’s hamster cage should be such that it is easy to clean and maintain whenever required. It should be easy to dismantle and you should be able to clean it thoroughly without difficulty. Glass cages look attractive but are difficult to maintain and you also face condensation problem in a glass hamster cage. Also, a glass hamster cage is difficult to move as it is heavy. Wire hamster cages are quite popular and the horizontal bars on the cage provide your pet with the required exercise. Plastic hamster cages are also extremely popular as they are easy to maintain and are quite light and so can be easily moved. Plus the plastic hamster cage is transparent which means that you can easily see your pet at all times.

4) Additional features: It is important to see if the hamster cage has any additional features apart from the food dish, water bottle and sleeping chamber. Extra features such as a hamster wheel, slide ladders and shelves will provide your pet with lots of exercise and fun. You need to check that the cage has accessories which will make your hamster fit and keep him engaged for hours which will improve his quality of life.

Whatever Hamster cage you choose, you just need to keep in mind that a your pet should have a separate sleeping area and ample space to move around so that your pet is safe, healthy and happy.
